Chris+Lynn, who are fabulous photographers from Canada, came up with an amazing idea to donate a canned good for each comment received on their blog to their local food bank. I stumbled upon this great idea by reading David & Kimi’s blog: Ohana Photography. Needless to say the word has spread and many other photographers/bloggers are joining in! It’s that time of year when we really stop to think of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. God has blessed Tim and I for which we are truly thankful, so we want to give back! For every comment received on my blog (on this post or any post) between now and midnight on December 16th, we will donate one canned good to our local food bank. I plan to split the cans between Columbus, Georgia’s Second Harvest Food Bank and and the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank (near my hometown of Wise, VA).
So start commenting everyone!!! And while your at it comment on the blogs of a few others who have joined the “can-wagon” :)

Brian Duvall who works for Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank sent me the following information:
Cool idea. Thanks for sharing and raising food for our food bank.
Here are some stats you might be interested in knowing about the region and the Southwest Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank…
* The food bank serves 26 counties and 10 cities in southwestern Virginia. That’s 12,041 square miles and a population of more than 1.1 million.
* 10 of the poorest counties in Virginia are in this service area.
* 59% of the region’s average household income is within the poverty range at $34,000 per year.
* The food bank has three branches located in Abingdon, Salem, & Covington.
* We distribute more than 11 million pounds of food per year to 350 partner agencies like the Red Cross, Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, Church food pantries and many others.
* We can provide $6 worth of food for every $1 donated. So, a donation of just $300 can provide enough food to feed a family of five for an entire year.
* We have a four star rating on http://www.charitynavigator.com and 95 cents of every dollar goes toward food acquisition and distribution.
I’m happy to support this wonderful organization!
