Senior Portrait Artists – SPA {Clarksville, TN Senior Photographer}

The SPA (Senior Portrait Artists) conference this year was held at The Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, California. The resort was absolutely gorgeous! The modern decor and weather made shooting around the resort a photographer’s dream. Here are a few more of my favorites from the event:

Senior Portrait Artists Conference {Clarksville, TN Senior Photographer}

Where do I begin with the Senior Portrait Artists Conference (SPA) held a few weeks ago in Palm Springs, California? Let me start off by saying that it was an amazing experience! I opted to attend SPA this year instead of WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) which I have attended the past two years. WPPI was fantastic in it’s own right, but it can be a little overwhelming. Class sizes are huge and sometimes two speakers I wanted to hear were scheduled for the same time slot. SPA is different. It’s much smaller and I loved that everyone attended the same classes. I was able to hear every speaker there if I chose to! SPA is also dedicated solely to photographing high school seniors and I am transitioning the bulk of my business towards seniors and young teens. Lastly, WPPI is always held in Las Vegas and deciding between a smokey casino and gorgeous Palm Springs was a no brainer!

For those of you who don’t know how SPA works – there are daily classes to attend regarding photography, business, networking, etc. There is also a small tradeshow (MUCH smaller that WPPI – that is something I loved about WPPI), and model shoots. The models we photographed were actual high school seniors from across the US and Canada who won a trip to SPA through their studio! {Clarksville Seniors – I will be releasing information soon on how YOU can win a trip to SPA if you are photographed by our studio!} There are “national” and “regional” winners. The national winners were photographed during the three-day event and the regional winners were photographed at the post-events. Each model was teamed up with a lead photographer and SPA attendees followed. We could watch and learn techniques from the lead shooter, try our best to get a good shot (which is difficult for the model and photographer in a group of sometimes 20+ people), or jump around groups to learn more. What I love about photography is that you can take one model and have multiple photographers snap a photo in the exact same spot and pose and each image will look completely different. Attending photography conferences has definitely been an invaluable investment in my business!

WPPI {2010}

I’ve been back from WPPI for a week and I’m still spinning from the classes and trade show. WPPI is a photographer’s jungle gym to say the least! I could have stayed in the trade show all day and still have not visited every booth – it’s that large! The ability to see and feel the quality of what new products are available to offer my clients and meeting my vendors in person is priceless. The classes were inspirational and motivating! I also loved being able to make new friends and spend time with my AKC girls. We all roomed together so it was like we were back in Charleston again only trade the beach for slot machines and the stench of cigarettes. Let’s be honest, Las Vegas is fun to see but it’s not a place I would really want visit if it weren’t for WPPI. Maybe next year they’ll move it to Hawaii! ;)

Out of Office | WPPI {Las Vegas}

I will be out of the office Sunday March 7 – Thurday March 11 for WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) in Las Vegas! All emails and phone calls will be returned on Friday March 12th. Thank you in advance for your patience. :) WPPI is the largest convention and tradeshow for professional photographers. This is my second year attending and I’m so excited! I love taking the classes and scouting out new products to offer my clients. I look forward to making new friends and of course seeing all of my Alpha Kappa Camera girls!

Sarah B. Gilliam took some fun pictures of everyone working it out at the group shoot in Nashville. I had a great time getting to know these sweet ladies! Apparently my lips were chapped by how many shots my tongue is sticking out in….oh well enjoy!
