I’ve been back from WPPI for a week and I’m still spinning from the classes and trade show. WPPI is a photographer’s jungle gym to say the least! I could have stayed in the trade show all day and still have not visited every booth – it’s that large! The ability to see and feel the quality of what new products are available to offer my clients and meeting my vendors in person is priceless. The classes were inspirational and motivating! I also loved being able to make new friends and spend time with my AKC girls. We all roomed together so it was like we were back in Charleston again only trade the beach for slot machines and the stench of cigarettes. Let’s be honest, Las Vegas is fun to see but it’s not a place I would really want visit if it weren’t for WPPI. Maybe next year they’ll move it to Hawaii! ;)

Out of Office | WPPI {Las Vegas}

I will be out of the office Sunday March 7 – Thurday March 11 for WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) in Las Vegas! All emails and phone calls will be returned on Friday March 12th. Thank you in advance for your patience. :) WPPI is the largest convention and tradeshow for professional photographers. This is my second year attending and I’m so excited! I love taking the classes and scouting out new products to offer my clients. I look forward to making new friends and of course seeing all of my Alpha Kappa Camera girls!

Sarah B. Gilliam took some fun pictures of everyone working it out at the group shoot in Nashville. I had a great time getting to know these sweet ladies! Apparently my lips were chapped by how many shots my tongue is sticking out in….oh well enjoy!

Albums Galore

Albums from the weddings of Robin & Jeff, Ashley & Jason, and Jennifer & Hunter all arrived last week. I wanted to wait to blog these beauties until they were in the hand of their anxious owners! Now that they are I can share them with you. I love that each couple chose a different color and the red album is my sample album. I may have to order samples in all of the colors offered because I seriously wanted to keep these for my own. ;) Each album is handmade and the covers are 100% full-grain natural leather (it smells oh so good!). The pages are 2mm thick and super sturdy. They are also “gutter less” in that the images can be panoramic and spread across the full spread without lines down the middle.

Sweet Home Virginia

Oh my. It’s been two weeks since I last blogged! Shame. On. Me. I have been doing my best to blog every few days but these last two weeks flew right on by. I traveled home to Virginia the last week of September and enjoyed time with family and friends in my hometown. My Dad does not have the Internet so all I had was my Blackberry connection. It actually felt nice to take a break from the computer! :) While I was home I shot 4 mini-sessions, two lifestyle portrait sessions, and attended Southwest Virginia’s first photographer’s luncheon that was started by my friend Brad Lovell. He loved the idea of networking like we do here with the Columbus photographer’s and decided to start one back home. I was excited to be able to attend their first lunch. I also visited my Mom in Abingdon and we did a little antique shopping. I managed to pickup this little gem, a No. 1A Pocket Kodak vintage camera for $20. It no longer works but will make a great addition to my office decor!

After filling up on home-cooked meals and fellowship with some of my favorite people for almost a week I drove up to Blacksburg to visit with my brother and his fiance. We picked Tim up at the Roanoke airport super late on October 1st and we were blessed to spend some time with them as well. The next morning it was off to Lexington for Tim’s Class of ‘04 Virginia Military Institute five year reunion. I’m still in shock that he graduated from college five years ago and that it will be five for me from Virginia Tech next year! We reconnected with old friends and missed those who were unable to attend due to deployments or work conflicts. So much as changed since we were in college. It’s amazing to see all the new construction and developments at our alma maters over the last few years.

Now we’re back home and praying for the weather to turn cooler in here Georgia like it was in Virginia. I miss normal seasons…at this rate we’ll still be wearing shorts and flip-flops in December! I had a fun senior shoot Tuesday and on Wednesday Tim and I had our photos taken by our good friend John Pyle. It was very different being on the other side of the camera. It definitely made me realize again how my clients feel and how anxious they get waiting on their photos. :) We cannot wait to see what John captured of us!

And because no post is complete without a picture….here is a quick shot I grabbed of the Powell Valley Overlook back home the day I left. This was taken around 11:30am…not my ideal time to shoot, but hey I wanted at least one picture of it before Winter sets in! :)

Alpha Kappa Camera

I’m now in Charleston, South Carolina with eight other amazing photographers for our photography “sorority”! Most everyone had not met before the retreat so it’s like meeting eight new best friends. We’re all enjoying getting to know one another, talking photography, and enjoying the beach! Thanks to Cristi Owen for this map that we had no idea she was creating! :)
